82 Nancy Redmayne Ross (née Thorne) born in Windsor, Ontario, 6 February 1916, died peacefully 12 March 2014, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, at age 98.
Nancy will be lovingly missed by her sister, Mary White (née Thorne); sons, Peter (Yvette) and Michael; grandchildren, Marianne, Jennifer (Rob) and Julien; her great-granddaughter, Sophia and cousin, Barb Edwards (Art). She was predeceased by her parents, Gladys Mary Redmayne and Harvey Thorne and by the tragic loss of her first and last children, Davy and baby Ian.

Nancy had centuries old Nova Scotia family roots. She was educated at Halifax Ladies College and Dalhousie University (class of 1936) and worked with the YMCA-YWCA in Simcoe, Ontario and Glace Bay. She married RCAF officer Donald Ross in Regina in 1941. She lived in Halifax with their first child while Don served overseas. Don was posted to Ottawa after the war, returning with the family to England for a time in 1950.

Nancy made many interesting, life-long, friends where ever she lived, as the family moved during the next thirty years to Unionville, Ontario; Lexington, Massachusetts and, Los Altos, California. She was a fine hostess, cook and baker, drawing from her vast recipe collection. She was always knitting and tending her gardens and plants.

After Don’s retirement, Nancy devotedly researched and edited the journals of their great-grandfather, published in 1996 as ‘The Diary of a Maritimer, 1816-1901, The Life and Times of Joseph Salter.’ She and Don worked to protect Mi'kma petroglyphs rediscovered in the rocky barrens behind their Bedford home, eventually designated a National Historic Site.

The family thanks the thoughtful and caring staff at St. Vincent’s Nursing Home where Nancy spent her last years, especially Charles Anderson. Nancy’s cremated remains will be interred next to her husband Donald at Fairview Lawn Cemetery, Halifax, after a graveside service on Monday, March 17 at 11:00 am. A donation to The Friends of McNabs Island Society or to a charity of one’s choice would be appreciated. Thank you.
THORNE, Nancy Redmayne (I174)

83 Never married as death certificate indicates status as "single" PERRIN, Frederick W. I. (I30)

84 Newspaper obituary (See photo) indicates twins born, a girl and a boy. 1911 Census shows a son John but no other child.  BOUTILIER, Jessie Zelona (I62)

85 Note on date of birth: resources on Family Search show an October date of birth for Robert Cassels - there are two Robert Cassels born in Midlothian in 1815, but three sources (secondary) cite the February date for this Robert Cassels. Unfortunately, unable to find digital copy of a baptismal record for Robert Cassels to confirm but the 3 sources are credible.  CASSELS, Robert (I239)

86 Note that Johanna, Joanna and Hannah often used interchangeably and will appear on various documents in one of those formats.  FROST, Johanna (I2)

87 Note that marriage registration has indexed on Family Search surname as Ruhn. Error in transcription.  KUHN, Alexander H. (I349)

88 Note that on Clara's death certificate date of birth is written in as 1 January 1869.  KUHN, Clara (I373)

89 Note that on death certificate, date of birth is 27 September 1880.  THORNE, Emilie Jessie (I164)

90 Note that registration for birth seems to have omitted her forename. Date of birth overrides the space for child's name.  CASSELS, Madeleine Stuart (I431)

91 Note there is conflict in genealogies in family regarding marriage date. No church record located nor marriage bond. However, the birth registration for son linked to marriage sources identifies parents married 14 Nov 1869. With age gap between Mary and John, this seems more credible than an earlier year.  Family F4

92 Note variations for this surname: Cullerton, Culleton, etc.  CULLITON, Thomas (I21)

93 Note: on marriage certificate, place of birth is indicated as Merigomish, NS> CAMPBELL, Reverend Herman Ethelbert (I420)

94 Note: spelling is Cullerton in newspaper record. The surname Culliton is considered to be primarily associated with County Wexford in Ireland, with variants being Culleton, Cullerton, and many others not as numerous. Roman Catholic baptisms are only available for two parishes in Wexford, from 1827.  CULLITON, James (I514)

95 Note: Surname found with "e" on end or no "e".  HAWTHORNE, Elizabeth (I339)

96 Note: This record has surname of Anne as McDonald.  Family F14
