    Miscellaneous Frederick Howe was born 5 Oct 1840 at Halifax Nova Scotia and baptised 24 Dec 1840. His parents were Joseph Howe and Catherine Susan Ann McNab Howe. He fought in the US Civil War as a Private in Co. H, New York 82nd Infantry Regiment 21 May 1861 to 28 January 1862. He served as a Corporal, Company G, Ohio 23rd Infantry Regiment between 29 December 1863 and 25 July 1865. After the war Fred returned to Canada for a short time, and about 1874 or 75 he returned to the United States. He was living in Crawford, Ohio in 1870 and in Fort Gratiot, Michigan where he was working for the Grand Trunk Railroad in 1880. In 1884, he was described as 5' 6" tall with a dark complexion, gray eyes and dark hair. Fred died 21 Feb 1886 at the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers in Dayton, Ohio, USA and was buried in Dayton National Cemetery.  [2
